Data-Driven load management in professional football

Overview

As part of my Master's thesis, I was able to analyse data-driven load control in professional football to prevent muscle injuries to players using the example of Borussia Mönchengladbach. External loads were analysed using GPS data and internal loads using creatine kinase concentrations. The number of high-speed runs in a specific speed band was identified as a key factor influencing the CK response. Consequently, a prediction of the expected CK response can already support the decision to schedule recovery measures and individual training sessions in advance.
